Humbled Female of a Narcissistic Mother
@juliamiller1 Hey Julia, nice question! First we have to understand narcissism. Why it exists, and how. Why? It's part of Nature, it's a physical/biological mechanism. I can't explain it fully here (it would take pages) but simply said, after a trauma - a self esteem trauma, or self worth, confidence trauma - a really nasty experience, the body will try to compensate. Altering the brain stem doing this. Result: feeling better than the other. It's physical! Well this is very simply said, in fact, this starts working only when dealing with two such traumas simultaneously. Or even more. The result is a constellation where the person feels him self better than the other.
Remember Hitler who was rejected applying for art study? Probably he was rejected more often back then.
Now you understand narcissism, i hope. It's a brilliant coping mechanism of Nature!
Second step is why you? That's the karmic path. Why did you attract this situation. Because you, in this lifetime, finally here and now, can clear this karma. This your last lifetime and the end of the karmic cycle.
What to do? Focus on self care. Do healthy things, like food, exercise, having fun, with friends and other family members. Determine the consequences of her behavior on you. E.g. feeling guilty, feelings of shame, fear of becoming narcissistic yourself, or perfectionist. Perform shadow work for these emotions. Look for an EA workshop to help you.
Finally, protect yourself not only by a light bubble, but also by setting borders! There are lines she cannot cross. Make these lines clear to her.
In case you didn't do this already: cut cords every day, in your own way. EA must have a video on how to do that. I know there is an EA podcast on cord cutting. Maybe the first time write on a note "MY NARCISSISTIC MOTHER " and then burn this note with sage.
