Adrenochrome has made it to the big screen
@lighthealer_arkie Really?? I really liked it. But maybe it resonated more because I'm a woman and have that (horrible) internal battle the main character had.
I've noticed while ppl used to guess my age maybe 3-5 yrs younger than I actually was (I guess I had a girlish face) ppl pretty much guess my age spot on now. To a guy I'm sure this is no big deal- to a woman it was kinda a thing for me. (not a big thing but I did notice it happening).
OK here are my totally unrequested reflections on the movie..... LOL!
SO much pressure to LOOK young, you can't just BE young or have a young spirit - if you're a female - you have to LOOK young. Never mind your breakthroughs or achievements... because your face is sagging. And whatever your job is- your not as good at it anymore because.... your face is sagging.
The movie points to the absurdity of it which I really loved.
There was a small nod to social status - this was inherent in the celebrity status - you CAN look young but it takes celebrity level money. Feel like the movie said this pretty obviously and we all know this anyway. But the excess in which she lived brought that point home and I did end up thinking about class level benefits. Which resonates right now because botox would take yrs off but I don't have the $$! (& yes I said I would never put a toxin in my face just to look younger....when I WAS younger, its much easier to say this).
Dennis Quaid did an over-the-top job portraying the outright (& supported) objectification women in Hollywood face. Nobody even blinks because it's so institutionalized. Even a part of her was like, of course I'm out.... I'm aging.
Also thought it was interesting that the other cliche' kicked in - competition of an older woman and a younger woman and in the film - cleverly - it's you vs you; the main character vs the main character.
I think it was at the heart of the derailing of the main character- she began to hate the youthful self she would never be able to fully capture and, in turn, that Youth was stealing her current life, becoming an obsession and taking her right out of a very full life she might've had as ..... gasp!....an aged celebrity.
A lot of things we already know here- mostly if you're going to chase what society says & thinks of you- esp about something as arbitrary as aging...well, ppl will have to see the kind of monstrosity THAT leads to!!
