The Moon

I've heard that it is a base, that it didn't originate here, it's hollow inside, it is a map of Earth etc.  and yet the moon clearly has such an influence on the patterns of earth and the energy.  We've revered it for centuries, it effects the tides, it holds power in patterns, we use it's cycles for manifesting.  What is the true origination, purpose, or power of the moon?  Any insight in general would be great.
